Crazy Busy – Thank you Bridgeton!
Saturday’s Bridgeton Blueberry Festival was crazy busy! When we first arrived, I thought the event was going to be a bust–brother was I wrong.
Once the crowds started showing up we got slammed. People were ordering 2, 3, 4, and sometimes 5 drinks at a time. It takes about a minute-and-a-half to squeeze, flavor, and ice one drink. Five drinks and you’re already into 7 minutes to deliver the last drink. In the meantime, the cashier is still taking orders during that 7 minutes. How do you spell B-A-C-K-U-P?
The festival officially started at 9 am and was scheduled to close at 3 pm. We ran out of cups at 1 pm. The good news is that we were physically in a position where we could pack up the trailer and leave, rather than wait until the trailers around us moved out.
The major distraction of the day was that the trailer behind us had a generator running, so we could only operate out of one window without going deaf. Normally, we have two open: one for order taking, and one for delivery. Oh well, you do what ya gotta do.
We did arrive very early. Gates for vendors opened at 6 am; we were there about 6:20. That gave us plenty of time to unload the truck, setup, and stage all our supplies. Arriving so early set up to in a location where we could simply depart when finished.
We are grateful for the Bridgeton Improvement Committee. They did a great job in organizing this event. Thanks again, Bridgeton and the Bridgeton Improvement Committee. We had a great (but very exhausting) day.
